Have you ever had a clear idea of what you wanted to experience during a trip or an event? Well that is what this installment is all about. I had certain hikes in mind when I went to Yosemite for three days, and it really turn out very different, but also fantastic. The key for me was to be adaptable to what was presented to me and turn it into what I wanted it to be.
When I took the hike to McGurk Meadow and then Ostrander Lake (See Yosemite Plan A and B), I was left with blisters that didn’t allow me to walk very well on day three. A part of me wanted to put on the moleskins and push through it, but I knew that would not work with how bad the blisters were. So I decided that day three would be about driving Yosemite and getting an idea of future treks that I would want to take. It actually turned out great!
Since I was staying in the south end of Yosemite, I decided to take a trip to Tioga Pass on the north end. I started out heading into Yosemite Valley. This was a mistake, as there were people crawling everywhere and traffic backed up like I was on the freeway heading home on a Friday afternoon! So, at the first turnout, I made my way out and headed to the Tioga pass.

I took my time and made lots of stops to snap some pictures. I enjoyed the leisurely drive and was amazed at the variety of mountain terrain that I came across. My first stop came at a pond that I saw along the highway and was so beautiful that I had to stop and take it in. It was very peaceful and I spent more time there than I had anticipated. I then headed over towards Lake Tenaya and the pass to get there had some stunning views. The geology of this area is truly magnificent. Lake Tenaya is absolutely beautiful as it is surrounded by huge granite peaks. I’m amazed such beauty is accessed from the road! The down side is that since it was easily accessible, there were quite a few people sunning on the beach. I took a short hike along the shoreline and found some serenity from the masses.
For my last top, I headed to Tuolumne Meadows. I expected the crowds, though it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The meadows were very dry and not much in terms of wildflowers, but the scenery was still spectacular. As I headed back to my resort, I came across a beautiful field of Lupine amongst the redwoods. It was an unexpected and fantastic way to end my day. I wasn’t sure how this day was gonna go and I was really disappointed by the blisters on my feet. However, I learned that being flexible and making adjustments can bring as much joy as the original plan. So, was driving Yosemite worth it? Absolutely.
